Dr. Christie Yerby Dr. Christie Yerby is a licensed naturopathic doctor, available for on-site office visits, phone consultations, and house calls. She is also a natural science advisor to the products industry and is often asked to educate and collaborate with conventionally-trained medical professionals on natural alternatives for patient treatment. She is frequently called upon to write patient care protocols, product education handouts, and articles reflecting the latest in natural science research.

Having successfully received her doctorate in naturopathic medicine as a graduate of Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, listed in the 2007 Princeton Review "Top 168 Medical Schools", she completed both the national licensing board testing process and the Arizona state licensing board tests in medical science and clinical subjects, the gold standard of testing not accomplished by most naturopathic doctors.

Dr. Yerby expanded her studies and interests of natural medicines, to include international observations and experience, participating with native doctors of the Caribbean Islands within the indigenous medical practices of their cultures. Her subtropical visits include traveling to Cuba three times as a journalist, researcher, and medical intern to observe their medical system,

which is free of Western pharmaceuticals, a short study with Andrew Weil, MD, in the jungles of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, studying first-hand with him the natural botanical medicines located there, plus studies in Jamaica and Hawaii.

Dr. Yerby's philosophy of healthcare focuses on both the prevention and treatment of chronic conditions such as arthritis, digestive disorders, hypertension, and heart disease. Special emphasis is on detoxification of the body in the pursuit of ones own optimal health. Her treatment suggestions include the elimination of toxins in mind and body, so the obstacles to health are removed and healing can begin.

Dr. Yerby emphasizes the importance of taking responsibility for one's own health and encourages an active partnership between patient and doctor to facilitate a safe and successful health program.

Dr. Yerby's educational message to others is anchored in the beliefs that the body has the ability to heal itself if given the help and support it often needs, utilizing treatment resources easily accessible. These natural "medicines" include sunlight, fresh air, pure water, whole and unprocessed food, quiet communication with Nature, and a good balance of work, exercise, and rest.

As a part-time instructor at Central Carolina Community College, Dr. Yerby regularly taught a course on nutritional supplements and personal program planning called, "Supplements: The Good, the Bad, and the Toxic." Recently, Dr. Yerby presented a successful four-week series, sponsored by the College, called "What Everyone Woman Should Know."

A journalist by undergraduate degree, Dr. Yerby is often the author of health and wellness articles, topics ranging from women’s health, chronic illness prevention, how to work successfully with your health care professionals, and other areas within which a variety of health concerns are discussed with suggestions on how natural medicines may be supportive or beneficial. Her book, Health Without Hospitals, is a collection of those published articles.

Reading 'lab work patterns' can predict developing health concerns. Dr. Yerby is trained in identifying early signs of chronic conditions by reading existing lab work from a preventative point of view. This is important if one prefers to avoid disease, not just be treated as conventional medicine would once lab values have moved into the abnormal out-of-range references.

Important Safety Alert: Is this ethical? A North Carolina pharmacy is selling out-of-date supplement products to their customers. Read More

About Your First Visit

Personal visits with Dr. Yerby are unlike any other doctor's visit. You will leave your appointment with information based on your particular health situation that will benefit you through life. Unlike anywhere else, Dr. Yerby will research current medical journals prior to your visit in search of the latest treatment options, based on scientific clinical studies, which will address your specific concerns. She will apply these research discoveries from natural therapeutics of botanical medicine and nutrients to your health plan.

A thorough review of existing blood work reports, if brought to the visit, will be included. Dr. Yerby has taken advanced classes on how to interpret lab work "patterns" and low-normal values to discover sub-clinical, or developing conditions, often missed or thought unimportant by most conventional doctors.

An analysis of supplements and medications being taken is also part of your visit with Dr. Yerby. This is important, since adverse affects can occur with the wrong combination of supplements, or in their combination with medications. Nutritional deficiencies can also sometimes happen with medications. Dr. Yerby will make sure this is not happening with you.

Dr. Yerby would like to speak with you prior to making the appointment. This way it can be determined how much time will be needed for the visit. A 10 minute no-charge pre-visit consult is recommended by calling her direct line at 1-919-704-6298. Please say that you are calling for the no-charge information consult, as mentioned on this website. A determination can then be made at that time whether a one-on-one appointment would be indicated or if another physician at the clinic would better satisfy your needs.
